I Tried Hair Cryotherapy — And It Genuinely Changed My Postpartum Hair

Firstly, a small disclaimer. I am not a cold person. If there is ever a choice between being hot or cold, I will always choose the former. So when I heard about a hair treatment that uses ice and sub-zero temperatures to create shine and improve hair health, I was intrigued, but admittedly a little wary.

Since having my second child a year ago, my hair has been slowly emerging from its postpartum frizz era. Add in a natural tendency towards dryness and the general wear and tear of working motherhood, this usually leaves it feeling a little frizzy, slightly dull and faintly unmanageable.

So I booked in to try Hair.TOXX at Haug London Haus, and from the moment I sat in the chair, the experience felt thoughtful rather than gimmicky. I was looked after by Katie, and the appointment began with a proper hair health consultation. We talked through frizz, dryness, scalp sensitivity, breakage and postpartum regrowth, before settling on a bespoke treatment blend tailored to my hair’s needs.

Hair.TOXX is a Brazilian hair cryotherapy treatment that uses cold rather than heat to repair and regenerate hair, freezing nutrients deep into the cortex. After a two thorough shampoo washes, a custom mask was applied, featuring antioxidant-rich açaí berry, glacial water and nourishing ingredients such as avocado butter, omega-6 and hyaluronic acid. In short, everything tired, overworked hair desperately needs.

The clever part comes next. The mask treatment is sealed in using the Hair.TOXX Frozen Machine at –16 degrees Celsius with a hair tool not dissimilar to your heat straighteners although that’s where the comparison ends. You can actually see ice forming on the plates as the tool passes through the hair, locking the ingredients into the cuticle. It sounds extreme, but in reality it feels calm, controlled and surprisingly gentle. And no, you cannot feel the cold on your hair.

The treatment comes with a complimentary blow-dry, and to really see the results, I opted for a smooth, straight finish. This was the turning point. Even before drying it, my hair already looked sleeker and felt noticeably softer. Once finished, I genuinely could not stop touching it. I have never seen my hair look so glossy or feel so frizz free. It felt like a completely new head of hair, polished, chic and healthy, without that overly flat, over-treated look.

What impressed me most, though, was how it held up beyond the salon chair. Hair.TOXX is designed to last up to five weeks, and while results naturally soften over time, the improvement was immediate and robust. This was hair that survived showers, being tied up repeatedly while dealing with children, rushed mornings and general daily chaos. Normally, that level of handling would undo any good work within days. This did not budge. A quick brush through and I was good to go.

It is also worth clarifying what this treatment is not. It is not a keratin treatment and it does not alter your natural hair texture. Waves and curls remain intact, just calmer, shinier and far less frizzy. It is also suitable for coloured hair, which makes it a great option for anyone juggling highlights, greys and general damage control.

Post-treatment, I was advised to follow up with the Polar Shampoo and Snow Conditioning Mask Hair which are included in the treatment price to help prolong the results. I have been using both and have been genuinely impressed. My hair feels softer, more elastic and far easier to style, even on busy mornings when time is limited.

At around 45 minutes for the treatment itself, plus blow-dry priced at £140, this feels like a considered investment rather than a fleeting fix. For anyone navigating postpartum hair changes, winter frizz or simply wanting hair that feels genuinely healthy again, rather than temporarily styled, this is one I would wholeheartedly recommend.

I may never voluntarily step into a cryotherapy chamber, but for my hair, I am completely sold.
