Natural nails are having a moment, and new brand Fyle wants to help you keep them looking their best. Its at-home method takes five minutes and needs no blades, no heat and no polish.
We've overhauled almost every part of our beauty routines, from multi-step skincare to scalp treatments. The at-home manicure, though, has barely moved on. Salon appointments aren't always easy to fit in either, especially with work and children in the mix, so a five-minute alternative is very appealing.
Founded by Isabelle Magkoeva, Fyle wants us to rethink our cuticles. Rather than routinely cutting them away, the focus is on protecting and caring for them, so natural nails look neat, polished and healthy.
Developed with experienced nail technicians, the File Manicure™ Method is blade-free and heat-free, designed to gently remove dry, dead skin while respecting the nail's natural protective barrier. Magkoeva says it came from asking why nail care hasn't kept pace with skincare and haircare: "We've completely changed the way we care for our skin and hair, but nail care hasn't evolved in the same way."
This isn't about ditching your manicurist. Fyle is designed to work alongside professional treatments, keeping nails in shape between appointments or looking after them yourself at home.

Fyle sells individual products alongside two complete systems, The Kit (£42.90) and The Complete Kit (£52.90). Both suit different nail types and levels of experience, and the whole routine takes around five minutes. Each includes:

The cuticle rethink
Fyle's philosophy goes beyond speed. The brand argues that repeatedly cutting the cuticle with nippers or an e-file can prompt the skin to rebuild thicker tissue, creating a cycle of ever more frequent maintenance.
Its alternative is gentle filing, which removes dead skin around the edges rather than cutting the cuticle away. According to Fyle, this keeps the cuticle supple and protects the skin's natural barrier. The wider aim is to treat nails the way we now treat skin and hair, with more emphasis on ongoing care and less on the finished look.
Could it save you money?
Fyle estimates that a fortnightly salon manicure at £40 to £70 a visit adds up to around £800 to £1,500 a year. The brand says one Fyle Kit lasts around ten weeks, with The Kit costing £42.90. It isn't a like-for-like comparison, of course. Fyle won't give you a gel manicure, nail art or the salon experience. But if you're wearing your nails bare, or simply want to stretch the time between appointments, the maths gets interesting.
After years of gels, extensions and elaborate nail art, shorter, natural-looking nails are firmly back. But bare nails still need some care if they're to look intentionally polished rather than simply polish-free.
That's where Fyle feels well timed. There's no polish to dry, no UV lamp and no lengthy removal. The idea is to keep hands maintained day to day and add colour when you want it, rather than being tied to a manicure cycle.
For busy mums, the convenience is hard to ignore. A full manicure might not always make it into the diary, but five minutes at home feels far more doable.
Fyle isn't asking us to give up our manicurist, and nor would we want to.
